The Northwest Project Foundation is focused on changing the lives of elderly people in one of the poorest regions in EU – the Bulgarian Northwest. Due to emigration and high unemployment levels, lone-living elderly people with low income are an extremely vulnerable group. The Foundation provides free medical checkups and home assistants for the winter months. Apart from various social services, they have a locally-based social enterprise that generates income and sustainable employment of vulnerable groups and demonstrates a model that is also suitable for other small towns and villages in Bulgaria. With BGN 6000, we will be able to provide free medical checkups and home assistants during the winter months for one village in the municipality of Mezdra, NW Bulgaria.
